The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a country in West Asia, at the crossroads of the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula. Its official name in Arabic is Al-Mamlaka al-Urduniyya al-Hashimiyya (المملكة الأردنية الهاشمية). The country is named after the Jordan River, which forms much of its north-western border.

Amman is the capital and largest city, and Arabic is the official language. Jordan covers about 89,342 square kilometres and had an estimated population of 11,484,805 in 2023, making it a relatively young and urbanised society. The national motto is "God, Country, King" (Allah, al-Watan, al-Malik), and the national anthem is the Royal Anthem of Jordan (Al-Salam al-Malaki al-Urduni).

Jordan is a unitary state under a semi-constitutional monarchy. King Abdullah II is the head of state, and the country gained independence from the United Kingdom on 25 May 1946. The current constitution dates from 11 January 1952. The Jordanian dinar (JOD) is the national currency, and the country is known across the region for its stability, hospitality and rich heritage, from the Nabataean city of Petra to the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum.
