Quseir Amra is the small UNESCO-listed bathhouse whose interior frescoes are without rival — dancing figures, wine scenes, and the world's earliest known painted sky on a dome, stars on a blue ceiling.
It is the jewel of the desert castles.

It is the jewel of the desert castles.
Quseir Amra is one of Jordan’s most important early Islamic desert monuments, famous for its surviving wall paintings and bath complex. Its small scale makes it particularly different from the large archaeological cities elsewhere in Jordan.
Read the paintings as part of the architecture: the bathing rooms, dome and decorated surfaces together provide clues about the building’s function and the visual culture of the early Islamic period.
The desert setting means there is little shade around the site. Carry water and sun protection, and combine the visit with other Desert Castles when route timing permits.
