Qasr Mshatta is the grandest of the Umayyad desert palaces — a vast unfinished enclosure whose famous carved southern facade was carried off to Berlin's Pergamon Museum, leaving the tripartite gate standing alone in the steppe.

It sits beside Queen Alia airport.
