The High Place of Sacrifice, known in Arabic as Al-Madbah, is a mountaintop altar in Petra, reached by a climb of about 800 steps. It was used for religious ceremonies and sacrifices.

The climb takes about 45 minutes, and it is well worth it for the views. From the top, you can see over the whole of Petra, the surrounding mountains and the desert.

The site has two altars and a basin, carved into the rock, and it is a peaceful and atmospheric place. It is one of the best viewpoints in Petra.

For a traveller, the High Place is a highlight of Petra. Visitors can take the climb, and it is a memorable experience.
