King Hussein ibn Talal (1935–1999) assumed the throne at age 17 in 1952 and ruled Jordan for 47 years. He guided the country through wars, the loss of the West Bank, economic transformation and, in 1994, a peace treaty with Israel.
His memory is honoured at the King Hussein Mosque at Raghadan Palace.
